So we finally arrived in Mexico City after travelling for about 24 hours door-to-door!  Our 1st impressions of the city weren't great, it was a bit overwhelming at 1st as it's so huge and bustling (especially since we were really tired).  We got a taxi straight to our hostel in the historic centre of the town - right by the Zocalo - which is cheap but that's about all it's got going for it.  We got a 12 bed dorm - a dark and smelly room with some wierd people sharing the room with us!  We've managed to stay in the hostel 3 nights though - it's ok as long as you spend as little time as possible actually in the room.

Our 1st day was spent wandering around the historic centre of the city on our free walking tour (offered by the hostel), taking in the sights of the Palacio Nacional and the Diego de Rivera murals (depicting the entirety of Mexico's turbulent history), the remains of the Templo Mayor (Tenochtitlan), the Catedral, the Torre Latino Americano and much more.  Finished off by a proper Mexican lunch of tacos (apparently the best taco place in the city) - delicioso!

On our 2nd day we took a day trip to see the Teotihuacan ruins which were really impressive.  The site contains the ruins (really well preserved) of the ancient city of Teotihuacan, dominated by the Pyramide del Sol and la de la Luna.  You can climb up to the top of the biggest pyramid to get a great view of the whole site.  So we sat up there for a while, taking in the views and imagining all the wierd ceremonies that would have been going on when the city was populated.

Finally we visited the Museo Nacional de Antropologia before heading off on our overnight bus to our next destination, a chance to take in a bit of culture in this world-renowned museum full of artefacts from pre-hispanic cultures, sawtting up on what i'd learnt in my 4th year at uni.
