Tarangire NP/Magara Waterfall Camp

(Nick's story)

(Ronnie's story)

On day two of the safari we drove to Tarangire NP. Tarangire is famous for its magnificent Baobab trees. During our drive, I spotted two hyenas and a completely motionless leopard... all three turned out to be dead tree trunks! We again were pleasantly suprised by our lodging. The Tarangire Safari Lodge sits on top of a bluff overlooking the river. The views of the animals were spectacular- we saw giraffes drinking from the river, lots of elephants and antelopes. The place was so fantastic that we opted out of our morning game drive and instead enjoyed the morning views from our tent and then from the restaurant.

The next day on our drive to the Magara Waterfall Camp we picked up our chef, Dread (short for dreadlocks). The campsite was remote, very basic (no running water), and as the name suggests next to a chocolate brown waterfall. With the help of some local village boys, Dread set up our tent and even porta-potty. After an afternoon walk to the river, we had a fantastic dinner prepared by Dread... how spoiled we felt! After a good night sleep under the stars, we were off to our next adventure- Lake Eyasi and the hunt.
