Had a lie-in today which was nice – it’s amazing how the simple things in life are more appreciated when you’re camping (yummy – warm toast with boysenberry jam and hot coffee!). We then headed in to Nelson – the main town at the top of the South Island. We had seen a plug from Billy Connolly for a museum in Nelson on his NZ tour TV documentary so we decided to check it out – its called the World of Wearable Art (WOW) and its coupled with the Museum of Collectable Cars (a rather odd couple at that). Anyway – both sections were brilliant – some real beauties in the car section with good displays and exhibits (like a cut-away 4-stroke combustion engine display – my cup of tea (Evan that is).

The wearable-art bits were even better (we weren’t allowed to take photos of that bit though but the outfits were very original and well presented. The kids were a bit scared of the UV-light displays (black mannequins in a dark room with their clothes floating in space – you get the picture…) Anyway a very enjoyable a recommended trip. We then had a wee walk and lunch in Nelson – a nice leafy town with a good beach, lots of sunshine and chilled people – if it had good IT jobs it would be a pretty decent place to live. After that we twisted and turned our way towards Picton and the Marlborough Sounds where we saw some amazing sea views (like Scottish loch-views ala Queens View only on a bigger scale).
