Kaikoura
From my trip round the world! in Kaikoura, New Zealand on Dec 05 '06
Had a long drive up from Queenstown to Christchurch where i spent the evening before going up to Kaikoura the following day. It was only a short drive from there up the coast to Kaikoura so we arrived before lunchtime. It was a pretty drive and had some really lovely views of the coastline along the way. On the way into the town the driver took us to a spot we we could see the seals pretty close up. Was staying at nice hostel called Top Spot and after checking in there we walked down to the Whale Watching place. We had a bit of a wait there once we'd bought the tickets but they then drove up down to the Marina where we had to pick up the boat. I really loved the Whale Watching trip, it was v cool! As well as spotting a few sperm whales quite close up we also saw, seals and loads of dusky dolphins-couldn't believe how cute they were!! Was a really well done tour and pretty informative too. Was lucky with the weather again as was very sunny so good conditions for the trip although it was still pretty bumpy!! If I go back I will defintely do the swimming with dolphins trip but would have been to rushed this time round.
After the whale watching trip finished we had a wander around Kaikoura which is pretty little town and went to place which did really good fish and chips! The following day I had to get an Intercity Coach back down to Christchurch but that wasn't leaving until 12.30 so had a bit more time to wander around the town and look at a few of the shops and a nice cooked breakfast! I was really glad had managed to fit the quick trip to Kaikoura as very pretty little town and the seeing all the marine life made it worth the trip!
