Tranquility Ahora

Well, after about four weeks of seeing the many wonders of Spain, I needed a few days to walk and not to be impressed.

The tourist bureau of Alicante would not be plesed with this review, but I enjoyed the beach and the pedestrian walkway most. The walkway is paved with stones in a wave pattern and has seats scattered along. One can see the marinas and beaches from the walkway. I think there are vendors there sometimes but this winter and only in daylight hours were the stalls occupied.

French and Arabic Ferry Terminal in Spain

The city is a port and a bit of a resort. There are several marinas, some with nice yachts, some with fishing vessels and some with boats so small I can´t see how they would survive a storm. Pehaps, that´s my Alaska orientation.

The ferry terminal  was strange. All signs were in French and Arabic. Apparently, the only ferry goes to Oran. I can´t figure out from my map if this is a separate country or part of Morrocco (SP?). Anyway, the people waitng for the ferry had huge amounts of packages. One couldn´t call them luggage. They were the cheap huge plastic bags that are so common in Mexico and the travellers looked like they were carrying as much as they could. A strange place. Maybe Spain is the purhasing place for merchants in Oran.

Stayed in a hostal with a  shared bath but my own TV. Good location. And heat control. I´ve had to use the circuit breakers to get the heat working but this is quite imprtant to me.

Nice vegetarian restaurant. The food here tends to lots of olive oil and the salads were wonderful. I actually ate there twice.

Not such a tourist city although it did have the usual.

There was a fortress high on some hill that interested me but I wanted to use the elevator to get there and couldn´t find it. Usually, that would have been a mission but I just did not care. I saw it from afar and that was fine.

Anyway, I am about ready to leave Spain and am looking for a place to stay for about ten days. I have moved too many times in the past four weeks and lokking for ahotel is getting old.
