Chocolate and computers!
From Round the world! in Moshi, Tanzania on Nov 10 '06
Have escaped the mountains in search of chocolate as I have failed to find any in Usangi! Also need to look at resources on the internet to help my adult beginners at the pottery (but the chocolate mission was planned before I realised I needed to find an internet connection - be under no illusions about my priorities!!)
Having waited nearly an hour for a bus that didn't come I ended up on a daladala (minibus taxi) to get to Mwanga, from where I got a proper bus to Moshi. For those of you who have not experienced such modes of transport, a daladala is a small minibus which should seat up to ten or so in the back.......except in Africa! Double that, fold in your arms, legs, heads, press body against window/other passengers and enjoy the ride! The novelty of public transport is wearing off already! I will have to weigh up the benefits of a shower and sit-down toilet available in Moshi against the journey here on future weekends! The actual journey time was about three hours from departure, so not too bad. Not comfortable or relaxing, but hey ho, I'm here to experience the culture and am doing just that (apart from today when I shamelessly eating western food and enjoying tourist comforts!)
Am hoping I might see Kilimanjaro later - I've so far only ever seen the very base from the road (and not always that) due the the cloud. Apparently late afternoon and early morning are the best times, but it depends on whether it rains today or not.....
I have been trying to upload photos to previous entries on here but the first three photos are still not up after an hour! It could be a long process! Don't hold your breath for images of anywhere mentioned so far!!
