Day 8:

The main attraction in Ballarat is Sovereign Hill, a recreated gold mining village of the mid 1800's. Actors were roaming the streets in period costume, and there were fully functional mines and other businesses from back in the day. We travelled down the mine, watched horses being shod and gold being smelted. The sad pharmos that we are, we also stopped at the old apothecary shop for a pill rolling demonstration. We'd have a queue out the door if we still had to do that these days! We then tried to find our own fortune by panning for alluvial gold in the creek. We found a few specks, but nothing big enough to make an engagement ring out of!!
