First stop Vancouver
From Goodbye Scotland, Hello Canada! in Vancouver, Canada on Sep 19 '06
Arrived in Vancouver yesterday safe and sound, the flight was actually not as bad as I thought it would be, have met loads of people in the past day or so, so was either blethering or sleeping on the flight!!!
Got to our Hostel last night and then we all went out for dinner, which was a really good laugh, but by this point I have been up for 25 hours so was dizzy with sleep depravation!!
Had to pinch myself - finally here!
The Hostel is fine, last night was scary going to sleep, had a bit of a panic thinking "What the hell am I doing!" but think I was just so tired, the other people in my room are nice but I think I am the only girl in with strangers and not people from the group, which was fine, a couple of German girls who left this morning so who knows who I will have for company tonight!!
This morning I will be checking out the web for apartments in Banff, dont think I can do the hostelling thing for long, although I know I will get used to it and its still all new, the thought of having my own room is just heaven right now!!
Am off to an orientation meeting later this morning and then try and get all the sensible stuff out the way, like bank accounts and phones! Surprisingly my phone works over here but it will be costing me a fortune, so have just sent one text and called dad to let him know I was safe!
Think tonight we will be going out for dinner again with some of the group, everyone is really friendly and nice, but I get on a lot better with the guys who are a little more laid back, they are arranging to go see an ice hockey game for one of the nights so if I am here I will tag along to that, should be fun!
My German Roomates were telling me that they are not long back from Banff and it has started snowing already!! So that should be good, perhaps my winter job will start as scheduled at the start of November! They were telling me how beautiful the place is so am really looking forward to getting there!
When we got in last night we had terrential rain in Vancouver but thankfully this morning is a little nicer and we can maybe get some sightseeing done later today! I have to say, Im not too impressed with the city so far, I almost feel like a traitor saying that, but obviously all the wee differences are nice to see, trams going "Downtown" and things like that, that reminds you that you are in Canada, but when you see Downtown Vancouver you appreciate Glasgow that wee bit more, the architecture and things, this place is just a stack of buildings all built the same, and not nearly as nice as home! But of course, its still great to be here! I kinda felt like I had to pinch myself yesterday that I was finally here!
