Day 6: First night in Rome

We left Venice early but still managed to hit traffic on our way to Rome so ended up getting there later than anticipated. After checking into our hotel rooms we got back on the bus and took a night tour through the city while Andy (our tour manager) gave us a history lesson on Rome. We then got off the bus and were given a few hours to explore the city and grab some dinner. We walked over to Trevi fountain and made our wishes then did some shopping at the local Christmas market in Piazza Navona. For dinner we choose a beautiful little restaurant called the Antica Taverna where I had the most delicious bruschetta ever!! Italian food is fabulous!

I had the most delicious bruschetta ever!!

Day 7: Vatican City and the rest of Rome

Our second day in Rome was filled with all types of adventures. The day started out early by taking the Metro system down to Vatican City for our walking tour. We stood in line for only a few minutes before meeting up with our walking tour guide. We walked through hallways filled with artwork and finally got to admire the Sistine Chapel up close, it was absolutely beautiful! After our walking tour Meera and I walked up 326 steps to the top of the St. Peters Besillica dome. The views of Rome from the top of the dome were amazing! It was a long hike up but totally worth it. After getting down, we left Vatican City, and had dinner at a fancy little restaurant nearby. After lunch we went looking for the bus to the Colosseum and after being left behind by the bus driver we finally caught a bus that got us there. While at the Colosseum we checked out other nearby historical monuments then walked to the top of a hill where to took pictures with the famous Boca of Truth.

After the Boca of Truth we had a short setback by accidentally getting on the wrong bus and getting lost in the Jewish Ghetto. It took us about 2 hours to find our way to the Galleria and famous Spanish Steps. Along the way we had a few snacks for dinner and ended up paying 9 euros for a Coke in the fancy area near the Spanish Steps.

By the end of the day Meera and I were exhausted! We took the Metro back to our hotel and spent a little time on the web before going to bed.

Rome was beautiful!
