Not long after we crossed over the border in Austria, I scenery started to change. Before, we had driven across fairly flat grassy areas with a few small forests. Now we could see the mountains, the Austrian Alps, in the distance.
We drove into Vienna, following the Danube River. We arrived at our hotel, the Holiday Inn, and I quickly set out to explore a nearby fresh food market.
That night we took a ride on the famous Prater Wheel and had a fabulous view of Vienna from the top of the wheel. Then we drove out to the countryside to a mansion converted into a restaurant. Many famous people had dined there over the years and they had a tradition of having guests sign the flag of their country. I sat with a teacher and her husband from British Columbia so we had the Canadian flag at our table. We noticed that one of the signatures was "Celine". We had a delicious dinner of schnitzel. During dinner we were entertained by musicians and dancers. The dancers were bringing the guests up on the dance floor to do the Vienna Waltz. I got a certificate that says I passed the Waltz!!
