Perth is a small city in fact.  You can go around its downtown on foot easily.  Another alternative is taking bus - CityCat.  There are three routes travelling around the city area but free of charge.  With such good welfare, you can imagine how much tax each citizen has to pay.  We arrived in the early morning and slept for a while before we walked around.  The most important thing we got to do was to engage some local tours for the next few days.

The next day we joined a local tour to the famous Wave Rock.  That was a long way heading there and so we had a few stops, 1st - a small historic town York, 2nd - Dog Cemetery and 3rd - picnic lunch.  Finally, we saw the spectacular Wave Rock, it really looked like a Big Wave.  The tour guide taught us to make a pose like we were windsurfing.  We even saw people taking the surfing board.  Ha Ha. Then, we took a few hours drive back to Perth.

The third day we went to the Margaret River - a famous wine regions.  We did taste a list of wine but both of us didn't enjoy much.  We also opted to have a restaurant lunch at Xandu Winery rather than having the picnic lunch - wow delicious.  Then, we drove a long way (again) to visit Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, the dividing point between the Southern and Indian Oceans.  The weather was not very good, sometimes raining quite heavily.  But when we arrived the Lighthouse, sunshine came out.  We even saw the big rainbow.  How amazing.  On our way back to Perth, we had a quick stop at the Busselton Jetty, which was well known for its long length, for a light dinner and then back to Perth.

The fourth day we walked around Perth city area.  We went to the famous Kings Park where you would feel very leisure and pleasant.  We rented a bicycle to ride along the swan river too.  This is the most relax day we had there.

The next day we joined the 4WD tour to the Pinnacles Desert.  We first stopped at Caversham Wildlife Park to view koalas and hand feed the kangaroos.  After lunch, we went to the mystical Pinnacles Desert for an easy paced walk through the fascinating landscape.  Lastly, the 4WD driver gave us the thrilling experience of sand boarding and 4-wheel driving over the vast sand dunes.  This was the first time we played sand boarding and it was indeed interesting and exciting.  That eveing, we saw the beautiful sunset too.  We had a fun day and much credits should go to our funny tour driver - Peter.

The sixth day, we went to another historical city - Fremantle. The weather was not stable that day, sometimes raining, but it won't affect you to have a good feel of the old buildings there.  We also had a seafood dinner that night, very delicious!

On the last day, we took a leisurely cruise to Rottnest island.  Upon arrival, we hired a bike to explore the island.  At first, we enjoy to tour around, making a few stops to view the spectacular seashore.  However, we found out we needed to rush back to the pier to catch our ferry departing at 4:00pm.  We were too far away there and had to ride non-stop for nearly 2 hours to get back.  How nervous we were at that moment.  But the story didn't stop here.  When we finally arrived at the pier, I couldn't locate my return tickets.  The staff said we had to pay A$25 per person to get on board.  I was so disappointed after exhausted by the riding.  Fortunately, we met a good staff who decided not to charge us!!!  Then, we went to have a seafood dinner again at Fremantle!

To sum up, we enjoyed this trip very much.  It was much interesting than we expected.

No need to book the day-trips online first. You can book the trips easily once you arrive Perth. Just walk around the city, go into the Tourist Centre and make the booking. You can ask the trip details with the staff. For Rottnest Island, it doesn't matter if you don't swim nor dive, but you must ride a bicycle so that you can tour around the island. However, I don't think you can see the dolphin or whale. The scenery is quite good there.

I am planning a 4-day trip to Perth. Could you advice me whether I need to book the day-trips online first or could do so when I arrive. I am planning a day to Pinnacle, a day trip around Perth city and Fermantle. How about the Rottnest Is, is it worth going if I don't swim nor dive, but I want to watch either the dolphin or whale. Grateful if you could give me some tips.
