Beautiful Stockholm
From Sampling Scandinavia and Russia in Stockholm, Sweden on Aug 18 '06
This is our first day in Stockholm. It really is a beautiful city. And it's true... there are beautiful women everywhere. I was told the reason why...
The vikings used to only take the fittest, and best looking women home from their raids. And because of all of the good genetics, now there are an abundance of good looking people over here.

The city itself is very picturesque... it's built on several islands and the old architecture on the water is just amazing. We quickly settled in for tea, and had a fairly traditional meal including meatballs, herring, and pork ribs. The food is great, and the weather has been lovely. Stockholm is quite a large city, and although those from Denmark might like to admit it, it's nicer then Copenhagen. Graeme and I did the sourvenier shopping thing, visited the church holding St George fighting the Dragon. I also visited the museum of a Swedish war ship that sunk on it's maiden voyage several hundred years ago. It was amazing to see all of the ornate carvings on it, and how big the thing actually was.
After that I left to look for internet access, and so haven't seen anyone else from tour much today... even Graeme. I've been doing different things, and Stockholm really is a very big place. It's easy to get lost in. At the same time it's fun to walk around, and I know how to get to my busses meeting point this evening. Unfortunately it's also the day I forgot to take in my camera... Graeme said that today he'd take plenty of happy snaps for me though, so I'll have something to remember the place by.

Apparently from here on in until the other side of Russia, there won't be much in the way of internet access.
I have come down with a cold. Not much fun. I am hoping with some rest I can shake it off. I've been doing huge amounts of walking, but my feet are fine with it now. Definitely looking forward to tonight... we're visiting the Ice Bar. Everything in the bar is made out of Ice... including the glasses. It should be an experience.
Tomorrow we continue our journey onto Helsinki in Finland.
