Last day at work at the State

4 July 2004 - Fourth of July in Juneau Alaska with pancake brekkie and parade and fireworks from the veranda of the SOB on the eve of the third of July.\r

6 July 2004 - Last day of work for the State of Alaska. \r

9 July 2004 - Four Seasons cruise to Gustavus with viewing of whales and sea otters at Point Adolphus then return via Bartlett Cove at Glacier Bay.\r

10 July - Hike Perseverance Trail\r

11 July - Greet visitors at the Kiosk\r

12 July - Bike ride\r

13 July - Adventure Bound cruise to Tracy Arm with Captain Steve Weber.\r

16 July - Bike ride up to powerhouse at Salmon Creek.\r

\r

18 July - Hike up Perseverance to Granite Basin to determine location of Paul Emerson bench.\r

\r

21 July - Hike Montana Creek to Windfall Lake (about 14 miles).\r

\r

23 July - Paul Emerson Celebration of Life potluck at the Auke Village Recreation Area 5-9 with a wonderful full spectrum rainbow and a pot of gold at the end.\r

27 July - Happy 90th Birthday Paul Emerson. \r

A morning hike up Granite Basin and then the dedication of the Paul Emerson bench at 6pm with about 25 folks in the pouring down rain. A bit of drama when one of the volunteers building the bench had a medical problem which brought in the fire and rescue team before the event started...plus the bench is not totally complete but we had a great time drinking champagne and Martinelli, eating kudos and chocolates, and telling stories.\r

29 July - Errands to tend to as the rains continue!\r

31 July - Hike up Mt Roberts with Carolyn and Mary. They continued up the Gold Ridge and I rode the tram back down to continue getting ready for my journey. Great carrot and ginger soup and veggie wrap at the Soup Cart.\r

1 August - Make final preparations for travel tomorrow!
