How 'bout some boat jazz, huh?

So, on Monday, Scott went over to Dave's place to steal some movies for a movie night and from there sent me this email:
"Boat jazz? Free! Come to Dave's place ASAP!!"
So I had to rush to get ready, run to the ubahn, then wait for a train... Then run from one platform to the next at a different stop, then... wait for a train... I'm already late at this point so I'm getting kind of stressed (see first photo!)
And as I run up to Dave's building (which I've never been to in the dark so I had no idea if I was going the right way) I see a big group of people and Scott runs up to me saying "you made it!! We were just getting ready to leave!!"..phew....

We took the Ubahn to the harbour where an old red firefighters boat was waiting for us. I was a little wary because there was no one around and I couldn't rally hear anything... "Did these french, italian, german and spanish people bring us here to kill the non-deutsche speaking canadians??" (It was quite an international group-just don't ask me to remember their names!!) But we walked down the boardwalk thingy, up to the boat (really thinking "are you guys sure about this??"), up the gangplank and through some pipe filled halls, down some very uneven stairs and through a door where all of a sudden we were blown away by how PACKED it was!

We wormed our way to the very front, off to the side of the band (behind the trombone player!!) and found some seat (some people we sitting on stairs!).
Then, we grooved to the groovy grooving groove. Actually, it wasn't very 'groovy' music, it was more trad jazz. Maybe Dixieland jazz? I'm not great at categorizing jazz, I'd need kevin to listen to it.But they had trumpet, trombone, piano, drums, sop/alto/bass sax (All!) clarinet (I tried to watch that closely to get some tips!), upright bass, TUBA (the most JOLLY sound EVER-seriously, it made me grin forever it was so great!!),banjo and pocket trumpet, all rotating and taking turns. And they weren't using music, it was just a huge Jam session with tons of solos.

Dave was quite drunk and very social with all the other international students but I'm afraid I was so into the music I was rendered useless in conversation! Ah, well I will see them all again, on of them is Dave's roomie and the rest are just other acquaintances. We stayed until about midnight. The trains only run until 1230 or 1 and the band was either taking a break or done, I couldn't really tell, though it was probably a break since no one else was leaving!
It's definitely something we have to do every monday we are around (we are in Milan next monday and possibly visiting with aunt Barb the monday after that!!)
I tried to put pictures on this entry but my computer had a fit so I'll put them on after I give this beast of a machine a TIME OUT!!!
