2nd April
Standing on the quayside, neck tipped back, enviously watching as David calls a fond farewell down to me from the ships' deck. 'Bon Voyage my friend, I'll see you on the other side soon...'. The Oriana is to take him on the first cruise he's ever done. Stopping off at Walvis Bay in Namibia, Tenerife, Portugal and ending in Southampton. 3 weeks of glorious pampering and relaxation before the start of our challenging journey across the northern hemisphere.
The Oriana, a wonderful cruise ship on a par with the QE2 in size. It's huge. I felt quite sad that I wasn't on it with David and felt strangely churned up. Maybe it's dawning on me that this epic trip is about to start. Once David disappeared into the ship I rushed around taking pics and suddenly there he was way, way up on the deck, a pinprick silhoutted against the sky. Myself, Chanene and Janet 'number 2' decided to go through to the waterfront to watch the ship leave the dock and when it eventually sailed right past us it was the most majestic sight. There really is something very special about seeing a cruise liner glide past. Adieu to David for now. I'll see you in a few weeks time. I cannot wait for our adventure to begin.
