Took the train up to Niagara (9 hr trip), so really just got 1 full day at the falls. They are really spectacular, especially from the Canadian side - where I stayed. The township of Niagara was not quite what i expected though - it was more like a miny Vegas than a small resort town. There were two big casinos there, quite a few towers and a million 4D theatres!

The american side, for once, was quite different - over their side it is a national park and as such there has been minimal development. With that however they close off a lot of the access to the falls in winter (for safety reasons i guess), so the canadian side is definitely the place to be in November/December.

While in Niagara i checked out the casinos and went up the Fallsview tower there for some spectacular views of the falls lit up in the evening. I also did the 'behind the falls' walk where you can actually walk down tunnels which have openings right at the back of the canadian falls - awesome!
