The next day....

We went for a tour of the plant that Barb is working at. A fiberglass plant. We saw the place that they melt all the sand down, we saw the molten glass pour (bright orange) into teensy little molds and the little pellets that they become when they are cooled. Gaby gave me some to play with. We saw all the different kinds of fiberglass they make there, and all the insane machinery it requires. it was a pretty fascinating hour and then Gaby gave us a BEAUTIFUL green glass paperweight made by a local artisan from the little pellets they make!

THEN, she arranged for her husband to pick us up, his name is Werner (pronounced Fernair with very very little emphasis on the second r) and he works for Ottmar Horl, an international known artist whose work is all over Germany and Europe. If you Watched the Athens Olympic (I didn't) and you saw something on the field at one poit with 10,000 small fake owls in the olympic colours...that was him.  Anyway, Werner works for him and tried to introduce us to him but he was out of town, but we got to see his studio and examples of most of his projects! THEN Werner gave us TWO art books about Horl and TWO of the olympic owls (gold coloured, which all the athletes got to take home). So.

Is that the most ridiculously generous family ever, or what? They'd never met us before, had no reason to have to be so nice, and yet they went way out of their way to make our visit to their town super amazing!!!! Oh, and they invited us for dinner!

Unfortunately we were not allowed photos in the plant (security) and didn't have our camera so there are no photos from this day!! Sorry!!

It sounds like you two are having a wonderful time! I am glad that you are venturing around the country. What is your next stop in Europe? I am going to visit your mom in Kelowna, April 27th! I am excited because it has been a really long time since I have been there! Miss you both, Tanya
