We were lucky to obtain a ticket for the ferry in time, as we were first sent to the official ticket office in the North of La Paz to get our tickets. When we got there at 13:00 it appeared we could not buy tickets there for a journey that would start two hours later... so headed all the way back to the hotel, got our stuff, collected soem extra cash from an ATM and made our way to the ferry harbour to buy tickets there.
We managed well. It also appeared very handy, to already have our bike import licenses ready at this time, as we were checked two times. Shouldn't we had those, we surely would not have made it onto the boat in time.
The ferry crossign was said to last for 4 hours (15:00 - 19:00) but we only arrived in Topolobampo untill 21:30. Time on the boat was killed with some reading and hanging out. I hate boat travels, there's no room to move on a ferry, all passengers are waiting. And that's the atmosphere: wait.
Ben managed to have his Iditarod-DVD played on the internal video system, so there we were watching Iditarod-adventures with 100 other Mexicans :-) who all seemed to like it as much as we did.
After arriving in Topolobampo, we drove fro 25 km to Los Mochis, checked in at the very first hotel we'd see, had a superb, true Mexican street-dinner (where Ben nearly managed to get a "bailar-date" with the 60-so year old mamma that did the cooking) and than went to sleep to ... rise at 04:30 next morning to get or bikes on the train to the town of Creel. The train ride would last 8 hours, and would take us straight through Copper Canyon (Barranca del Cobre).
