Helen arrived from New York yesterday evening. Delightful to see her and really lovely to be able to spend some time together. New York to Boston/Cape Cod is a 300 mile/6 hour + trip. I hadn't quite appreciated how arduous a journey it would be when we talked about getting together here. Anyway, this morning we were up in good time to get to Provincetown for a 10.30 whale watching trip with Dolphin (Dolphin?) Cruises. Took about an hour for the boat to get to the middle of Cape Cod Bay and Stellwagen Bank. And I was utterly amazed by the whole experience. We saw a couple of Minke whales initially, at some distance. Then we started to see Humpback whales at closer and closer distances. I would think we saw 10 to 15 in total and some came right up alongside the boat.

Came back for a late lunch in Provincetown, which is in the middle of it's Carnival, a big gay pride event.

Then back to Wellfleet for a late afternoon swim at Newcomb Hollow beach, where we walked down to see the wreck of an 18th C Schooner which was washed up on the shore in January.
