Hiking in the Jungle

We hired a guide and did a 2 hour tour of the jungle surrounding the ruins.  We hiked through dense vegetation to many ruins buried over time by vines.  In the 25 sq. km. area around Palenque, arial photos have identified over 1400 buildings, most are hidden in the jungle.

The guide talked Garrett and David into trying termites.  They pronounced them ¨minty with a clove aftertaste¨.  Dave says, ¨The only problem is that the legs get caught between your teeth.¨ We also saw bats, toucans, and many medicinal plants.

We also walked through the Mayan Museum to fill in some of the historical gaps.

Tomorrow we head on to Villahermosa for one night and then home.  We will talk to you all soon.
