Do You Know Where Is the Jubilee Center?
From Do You Know Where Is the Jubilee Center? in Hong Kong, China on Feb 08 '06
Greetings from Hong Kong!
So far so good! I know it's only been one day, but I think all the good energy you guys are sending my way is working great! Before departing for Hong Kong, spent the day in Santa Monica doing some last minute packing, and went bicyling at the beach with Thao! What a sendoff! I'm going to miss the LA weather!Â
The plane ride was as luxurious as it can get for an economy class traveler such as myself! Cathay Pacific is a first rate airline. In any case, whomever told me to inquire about upgrading my ticket to business class for another $150 is off their rocker. Try $1000!!!! When they told me the cost, I had to excuse myself as I head to pick my eyeballs from the floor, and insert back into its socket! Sheesh! Where is MGM when I need them?? No way I would pay that out of my own pocket! Anyhoo, as wiley as I can be, I made some last minute changes doing an on-line check in (Tip to future travelers). Changed my seat from 56F to 63H. Why place myself closer to the restroom than necessary? I was thinking the same thing, but hoped for the best that it was far enough away! As luck would have it, not only was I out of the smell zone, I ended up getting the entire row to myself! L-U-X-U-R-I-O-U-S!!!!! Slept nicey, plenty stretching room, Great flight, skipped the 1am dinner, opted for a 3am cup-o-noodle snack, and a 6am chicken porridge (congee for the whiteys!) breakfast! Hows that for an Asian airline!
The only nuisance on the flight was this seemingly pleasant Phillipina woman whom turned out to be a chatty cathy! O my goodness, I guess it wouldn't be so bad if I actually understood Tagalog, but this woman was non-stop. Somebody give her a tranquilizer! The husband of the woman she was talking up a storm with actually had to get up from his seat and take a walk! That was a bit funny, as I can see him walking down the 1-foot wide aisle, shaking his head, and wiping the perspiration from his face.
Also met a guy...Michael...(not that way, my friends), pleasant conversation, good humor, turns out he's travelling Asia too. He's going for 2 months!  If our schedules work out, we may meet up at the South Thailand beaches, Phuket?? Turns out he's an Audit Consultant. UGH! I hated them at MGM! Very ironic I should meet one on my vacation!
Staying at the Wharney Hotel, haven't checked in yet (waiting until 2pm), so I went and had my first local meal (Pok Egg Porridge/Chowmein) for a mere $2.50!!! Have 7-11 nearby, and picked up some calling cards, and wanted to head over to the Financial District. As I was circled the block to find my way, a Philipino guy asks me..."Excuse me, Where is the Jubiliee Center?" I had to laugh, and told him, "Dude, you are asking the wrong person." I wanted to tell him "isn't Hong Kong the Jubilee Center?!!!" Anyhow, I somehow just really went around my block, and stumbled into the Pacific Coffee Company! What luck! I remembered this coffee chain from my last stay in HK! FREE INTERNET (Tip #2 for future travellers). Of course, the only people that can truly appreciate this place are the "Gui Lo's" (aka whitey's). I walk in and there are only foreigners! And I'm one of them!
Okay, meeting up with my good friend Kyla for dinner tonight! It's been 2 years since the last time we saw each other! She used to work at MGM as well, but found her calling years back when she signed up with the US Embassy!Â
Tomorrow, heading to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!
