This is one of the major citys round these parts and from what we saw it was pretty industrial and not that amazing, but, we did spend a couple of days there somehow.

Firsty we were staying in a really sweet holiday camp, it was quite far from the city centre, in a place called Lorneville, but out near the farms and fresh air. The couple that ran it were super friendly and had some little pet sheep and most of the time we were the only ones there and they seemed to love us. They also had  barn full of stuffed things and heads which was a little scary, but at the same time there was a piano in the barn too, which meant I could have a sing and a tinkle.

We spent quite a while in Invercargill catching up on emails, internet, photoey things and also had a nice lunch out for a change(This was where the cast of the film The Worlds Fastest Indian ate during fliming, see later garble on Oreti Beach). We also got Dominoes pizza as we had a voucher and its too cheap not too,  7 bucks for a large pizza, thats like just over 2 lovely British pounds! It wasnt all about food though although I also spent a large amount of time pondering about making Simon a birthday cake for a few days time.

Anyway we did have some very cold nights in Invercargill but also had a great sunny  morning at the beach flying Simons kite. It was called Oreti Beach and you can drive your car on it, so we found a quiet spot and got flying. Also just for those of you that are interested this beach was used in the filming of The Worlds Fastest Indian, with Antony Hopkins, and is where the original NZ star Burt Monro practiced for his motorcycle speed records. (He hit 136mph in 1957 here and went on to set a record of 190mph in 1967 in the USA on a 950cc bike!!)

Anyway where were we...oh yeah my kite flying skills was improving but I still didnt quite have the knack like Si, but it was fun. It was also nice to just jump in the back of Dora if it get a bit blustery and cold. After a few hours and watching a guy keep loosing control of his kite and buggy we had a spot of lunch and carried on exploring the far south.

We next headed to a place called Bluff, which isn't, yes isn't, the most southerly point in NZ but does have one of those fancy yellow signs telling you where and how far Sydney, Tokyo,London, The Equator etc are. This area was even more industrial looking but still a good drive and landmark to visit while we were down this way.

That was really about it for Invercargill, it didnt seem to have much character but was fine for 2 days.
