The National Monument or Tugu Negara was built to recognise & honour those who gave up their lives in the cause for peace and freedom, particularly during the nation's struggle against the threat of Communism (the period of Emergency).
There are 5 principal components that comprise the memorial site : the monument itslef; a long rectangular pool with fountain, a crescent-shaped pavillion; the cenotaph and the ancilliary gardens. The monument is situated at the centre of the reflecting pool.
It was built at a cost of RM600K & was completed in 1996, after 5 years of construction.

I didnt actually plan to go there but since I was just opposite the area ( I was in Lake Garden, by the way), so what the heck. Furthermore, I've heard of the place & saw the picture for the past 30 years but never really got the chance to visit the place itself.
Anyway, something really bad happened while we were there. My digital camera (the 3rd one) all of sudden, becomes faulty. Damn it! It didnt dropped down, it didnt fell off in the water......but it decided to get faulty just like that - right after the warranty period ends. Great ! Luckily I have a camera phone - better than nothing.
