In Cambodia...the temples are amazing!

We can't decide if we love Cambodia or not. The place seems to be one of extremes. Children begging, men and women with limbs missing through land mines, the terrible recent history of the Khmer Rouge, (that no-one talks of) and alongside this the most stunning temples you could ever see.

The temples are like entering another world. Yesterday we went to the temple where Tomb Raider was filmed and it is huge with the local jungle taking over. You can walk around for hours just getting lost in there. In the afternoon we watched the sunset come down over Ankor Watt, everyone goes there for sunrise or sunset. The place is buzzing as the heat of the day cools off and there are cameras flashing, orange monks wandering around and huge parties of Japanese, Koreans and everyone else...

The temples are like entering another world!

The Cambodian people are friendly despite their persistent sales pitch which always starts, "hello lady, hello sir, where you from? what's your name? would you like a ride in my tuk tuk, or a scarf, a cold drink" or anything else they are selling. As well as wanting some money they are desperate to learn English as most young people want to work as tour guides as this is where the money is.

The night before last we went to a traditional dance/buffet that I thought would provide us with a good cultural experience at this stage in our trip. Something different from going out with friends drinking. It was terrible, Pod did his best to sit through it but the food was bad, the music was painful and the dancing rubbish!

Pod has had his first bad stomach spending all of last night with a fever! He is better today but we can't travel far!Hopefully it will pass by tomorrow.

Back to Thailand tomorrow and a 24 hour trip to the Islands for the full moon party!
