Freezin' my nads off in Prague

Numerous flights to Prague were

cancelled due to severe snow and ours was the first BA flight to make

Luckily Wenny had a jacket that she stole from an Eskimo

it through after the Czech authorities hired elephants to sit on the

runway to melt it (the snow, not the runway). Our flight was delayed after one of them went nuts after a mouse ran up its trunk. When we finally got there it was freezing cold, and there was certainly loads of snow around. Prague airport is the easiest one to access that I’ve come across. We just got a local bus to the train

station, then a commuter train into the city. Why can’t all airports be like that?

I’d heard lots of good things about Prague and it is indeed one of the most attractive places I’ve been to. Beautiful buildings abound, and the snow enhanced it no end. Winter’s a great time to go there, for accommodation’s cheap (29 Euros for an apartment in our case) and there aren’t quite as many tourists as there would be in summer. I assume it’d be unbearable at that time of year, as it was still pretty busy when it was freezing. At midday one day it was -6 degrees. Nice. Luckily Wenny had a jacket that she stole from an Eskimo once to keep her

going.

Aside

from walking round the stunning streets and throwing snowballs at

random policemen, we went to a wax museum (featuring historical figures

who act as well as Paris Hilton), a toy museum (with dolls that look

like Paris Hilton) and a couple of castles (probably owned by her dad). One night we went to a black light theatre show, a form of theatre that’s famous in Prague. It

involves enveloping the entire theatre in darkness, apart from

fluorescent lights on the stage which highlight the actors, who dress

up in bodysuits and jump around the stage, a bit like gymnasts with

those ribbon things.

I’d been a fan of Kozel, a local brew, for quite a while, but upon having it in draft form I realised it’s probably one of

the best beers I’ve ever had. The best thing is, drinking beer in Prague is cheap and many of the drinking holes are in amazing buildings. As

you have probably gathered, we were very impressed with Prague, and

wish we could have stayed there longer (a month would have been good). From Prague we flew back to London for the connection to Delhi; it was a shame we had to leave at all.
