Rose Canyon Campground
From Bandelier National Monument N.M. in Tucson, United States on Jun 25 '07
Way up in the mountains north of Tucson is Rose Canyon Campground. RRM, Recreation Resource Management ran the campground with a guy named Larry in charged. He contacted us after we found out our satellite system would not work at Bandelier National Monument, telling us he had electric, water, sewer and a clear view of the southern sky for our satellite system to work at a Camp Host site. We drove for many hours from Albuquerque. At the same time we were getting other sites calling us on our cell phone offering us sites. But we had said we would take the site at Rose Canyon.
Larry told us the site would not be ready until the first of July. We stopped at Roswell and stayed at the Bottomless Lake a few days to visit relatives. Then headed toward Tucson.

We were way ahead of time so we stopped at Roper Lake in AZ. Nice lake, hot. Full hookups and nice views. Free showers. Also needed Camp Hosts.
Finally we got to Tucson but the site was not ready. We paid big bucks to stay at Tra-Tel RV Park a number of nights waiting. Nice small park, nothing special but clean and free showers.
Finally Larry called and said the site was ready. We climbed the steep roads with our trailer. Finally got to the burnt down forest. Hardly any trees untouched by a fire that must have gone through there within the last couple of years.
We were shown to our site. Other camp host kept coming up to us while we were trying to get our satellite system to work, introducing themself. Very friendly we thought. 5 hours moving around in the campsite had 7 trees that boarder the campsite. It started getting dark so we hooked up the rest of the things. The water, was a hose that went from Camp Host site to site. We would have to use our pump to get any pressure. The electric, well, if someone used their microwave in one of the other Camp Host sites, our lights would dim. The sewer, Larry gave us buckets so we could hike up a hill to a pit toliet. But if the satellite system would work like he said others did at that site, we would stay.
The next morning, I tried for another 2 hours going a foot at a time over one way than another. Nothing worked, the space had beaten us. We walked over to the other new Camp Host that came in the day before. She had sewer, electric and first on the water hose. Also had a phone that RRM supplied. We asked if she or if we could call Larry. This was not going to work unless we trimmed a couple of the trees. I could not understand how anyone could have gotten satellite system up there. Then we found out many things. Frist no one had except people that had long cable to string out get any satellite TV, muchless our satellite system that is hooked on top of our trailer. 2 almost all the Camp Host were upset with managment. Being written up, I've never heard of this. Many came up to us and said 4 people in 2 months have left the site we were in. They were also looking to leave very soon. I called Larry and finally he came up to our site. I explained the satellite situation. He stood there smiling with huge teeth, shaking his head no when I asked to trim the trees. I told him this would not work. All the thing we need, he said the site would have, were really not there anyway, but the satellite system was a deal breaker.
We packed up our 2 chairs and started down the hill to leave. By the time we got to the entrance we were flagged down by one of the other Camp Hosts. He told us that Larry had told everyone that he was sure glad we were leaving because we were a "Pain". "Pain", no we just want what we asked for BEFORE and Larry said he had. I have it on my voice mail to this day! We spent all that gas money and trailer site money. We figured it cost us over $1,000 and he lied to us! I guess he and others think once you are there you will stay even though they lied. We don't, we just tell you about what we must have and what I am willing to do. You can see from our past Camp Host experiance at http://bid4stuffch.tripod.com/ I sent that to him also! See other Camp Host sites at http://www.squidoo.com/Bid4Stuff go to the camp hosting site there.
