Problems showing but Assateague is a must visit!

Saturday and Sunday -April 19 & 20 Assateague Island National Seashore-Oceanside Loop 1/ Site 11

This island is beautiful.  We arrived here after a nice drive of 3 hours and of course George’s stop for gas and at Wal-Mart!.  Beautiful country.  Delaware is turning all their farm land into housing developments though many for over 55!  We have a site one dune away from the beach with a boardwalk right next to us to walk over.  There are 20 miles of beaches here and the sand is warm, soft and great on the feet.   The National Seashore has miles of bike trails and wild horses all over.  Driving to the campsite there were pony jams which reminded me of the buffalo jams in Yellowstone National Park. Ken, Linda and Walt you know what those were like! People would stop, not use their blinkers and block the roads.  There were so many horses when we drove in.  We are camping in the ocean loops and it is so peaceful listening to the waves one dune over.  We walked the beaches, biked all over, watched people kite surfing.  If you have a chance to stay here you must – it is a national treasure.  Beware though – pit toilets, cold showers, no electricity but it is just heaven.

Our second day here the ponies came right up to us in our site and we also had to ride between them when we were on the bike trails.  The weather was beautiful and every night there has been a full moon so we were able to sit on the benches near our campsite and look down on the most beautiful beach I have ever seen which just goes on for miles.  Since they have horse camps here for those who want to bring their own horse to ride there were a bunch of them riding the most beautiful horses on the beach all day long.  The stars and moon were out until midnight our second day here but then a storm came in and we got lots of rain.  The women next to us took down their tents and slept in their cars because the winds were so strong and they were predicting hail – never saw that.   If anyone tent camps here you have to have 15 inch stakes so that the wind does not pull the stakes out and your tent goes flying all around.
