My first day in Cairo was filled with jet lag coffee and a 20 page placement test for the al Diwan center. Having completed these activities I moved on to looking for an apartment. My standards were somewhat low after living in a hallway for the last two years in New York City and the very first apartment I saw made an impression. Three bedrooms a living room dining room bathroom and kitchen for a third the price of our "comfortable" apartment in the East Village. I took the place and slept there that night awakened at precisely 5 30 by the morning call to prayer.
