Food glorious Food indeed !!!

Most people when they travel to far flung places always come back looking thinner than when they went...........well....NOT me. I'm certainly NOT going to lose any weight  here! In fact, if anything, I am probably putting it on! It could be said that the food is to die for............ but that may not be the best description (please excuse the pun !), suffice to say the food is fantastic ! Khurschid the cook is an amazing (& very sweet) lady who has been working here for the last 10 years. She can cook anything you like from a brilliant biriayni, perfect pongal (rice pudding with cashews, coconut & raisins), delicious Dahi vada (donughnuts in curd), a beautifully tasting Bissi belly bat (mix of rice, dahl & veges) to a stupendous sopu saru (green leaf dahl) aa well as spicy sauces & chutneys ! She also does western food such as marvellous mash, piquant pasta & good old British chips !!!!!

My first night here I was served up a plate of pasta, for fear that I might not like 'their' food ! Little did they know that I eat almost everything (ok, I don't do anchovies), so I told them that they wouldn't need to cook anything special for me & that I was very easy....................... as far as food is concerned of course ! A distinct sigh of relief was haerd from the kitchen staff, so from then on in, I became an 'honorary' Indian eating with my fingers & sampling all the delights of Kurschids creations !

After the first week, I though it was unfair on the Sisters not to be able to sample our great British fayre, so I decide to cook them Shepherds Pie followed by a bread and butter (& chocolate) pudding! Chillies, chutneys & sauces of any kind were forbidden at the table when I served it up, but I did allow salt & pepper...of which the latter was applied in copious amounts !!!

The meal was a great sucess & even Kurschid gave her seal of approval by taking an extra portion home for her daughter. The following week, I said I would cook again...if the Sisters were willing......so Coronation chicken followed by a banana & chocolate cake were served up. Both of which got the thumbs up from everyone & a request was made for more cake !!

This weekend........I want to cook again....so I'm putting on my thinking cap for another traditionally British feast !!!! Ideas from any of you, would be most appreciated !

I will endeavour to watch & learn from Kurschid, so hopefully I will be able to reproduce a few of the amazing meals I have had here..........remember that some of you will be my guinea pigs !!!
