Discovering the Old Mexico
From On the route of the Aztec and the Maya in Mexico and Guatemala in Mexico City, Mexico on Dec 31 '07
Just think that you walk on the same ground where the Aztecs lived. Indeed, just behind the hostel there is an archeological site discovered while the city was doing some underground work. What is most interesting is to see how the buildings are slowly sinking into the ground. No it's not the beer! The buildings are leaning on one side. It is said that the old Mexico is sinking at a rate of 10cm per year. The 3 hour free walking tour offerd by the hostel is not to be missed. It is well documented and they also give you very good suggestions concerning restaurants, etc. The hostel also offers different tours. I went to Teotichilan and Guadalupe with them and were driven by Allen, a short for his name I could not pronounce, a humerous and lively anthropologist who was most interesting. As far as the visit to Guadalupe, needless to say that faith can carry the world. I never thought there were still so many believers. We had our first taste of mezcal, 3 small shots of different preparations. The tasting was free, but it still cost me US$45 to pay for art pieces I broke with my shoulder bag while visiting the souvenir shop. No, I sear it was not the mezcal!Oh we finally got some warmer weather and sunshine. Tomorrow I will be visiting the museum of anthropology, the house where Frida Kalo lived and the Trotsky museum. Quite an interesting part of history. It will complete my visit to the Diego Rivera museum and mural. These three persons surely left there print here in Mexico. Oh for fotos, you will have to wait until I figure out how to download them. OK, I know..I should read the book. Chow!
Expect that something wrong can happen to you, so you will never be disappointed.
