At this time there is some road construction over one of the two large steel and stone jetties which were built in 1939 to this park so plan for extra time.  Swimming, sunbathing, fishing, boating are the main attractions.  There are two swimming areas with modern bathhouses, food and where umbrellas, chairs, and rafts can be rented.

Look at the ocean so blue and beautiful!

This campground is another beach resort state park in Delaware.  It’s just off route 1 on the coast with the ocean on one side and two canals on the other.  Rehoboth Bay and Indian River Bay are on the west side.  This is a huge state park over 5,193 acres.  We camped here on a weekend in April and there were plenty of sites but from Memorial Day through Labor Day you better have reservations.  Driving down was easy but everyone says you can’t move in the summer so much so that they have a beach shuttle going up and down the coast.  There is plenty of beaches to walk, bike or drive to. In the summer, you can rent at the beach umbrella’s, chairs and rafts.  Across the canal from the campground is a marina, a beach for surfers, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking etc.  At the campground you can walk to the beach, bike or boat and there is fishing off the canal as well as on the fishing pier and surf fishing from the beach.   Clamming is allowed also with the proper license.  In season there are marsh hikes and other walks and talks.  There is a popular Sandcastle Contest each July which is very popular.  The campground has full service from March 1 through November 30 and then limited service the rest of the year.  Bathrooms were just redone and are all tiled now and are very nice.

Our day -  We got up this morning after another cold night but we did not have the frost that was about 20 miles below us.  The birds were chirping away this morning and there are lots of them here.  Another bright, beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky.  Jumped right on the bikes for a short ride to a salt marsh and back.  Packed up the camper and was out by 10 for a short ride to Rehoboth Beach mall for Walmart and gas.  As we were driving out we realize that there were even more bike trails that we missed.  It is really busy in Rehoboth Beach – a lot of cars and I can’t imagine how many are here in the summer.

We continued down route 1 but did not get gas because we missed them all – hard to watch the road, look at stores and find diesel-good thing we really didn’t need it.  Arrived at Delaware Seashore State Park about 11 and pulled in to a big campground where RV’s are side by side on an angle and found out that our electricity did not work.  So waited for the do-it-all man and he was really nice and he gave us all sorts of places to visit and what to do.  We can see the canal, bridge and marshes from our site.  Ate lunch then went on a bike ride and walked over to the fishing pier and the beach – really beautiful.  There is also an island at the end of the road that we are on so we rode our bikes down to this little marina village with brand, new, big houses and condos.  These houses are huge with big walk around porches and lots of window.  I can’t figure out how they are allowed to build on these marshes don’t think DEM in RI would allow it.  All I keep on thinking is that these are all federally insured through our tax dollars because no insurance company would insure these homes so close to the beach – this is a disaster waiting to happen.

Plan on eating dynamites for dinner and taking some long walks to the beach after dinner.  Just plan on enjoying life walking and biking for the next two days before we leave Sunday morning.  The weather today is in the high 70”s so it has been a real enjoyable day.
