Just a day of relaxing
From My Study Abroad in England in Jausiers, France on Dec 16 '07
Today was another relaxing day. We set the alarm and ended up getting up at 10:30am. Josie and I went and officially checked in to the resort. The lady was really nice and gave us some hints as to which ski resort to try.
Then we were all pretty darn hungry so we drove into Barcelonnette to find some food. I wanted to find a patisserie to grab something to eat before I had to start thinking about food shopping for the week. We found a little shop that was actually open, it was more a sweet shop then a bakery, but yummy all the same. I bought a rectangular thing that had cream and raspberry filling with powdered sugar on top. The only problem was when I took a bite and breathed in at the same time the sugar would go on the back of my throat and make me choke.
I thought it was pretty amazing that he found us way out here in the middle of nowhere.
Josie and I ended up buying a lot of our food together. We each bought a baguette and cheese. We got rice and sweet and sour chicken for two nights. We also got some cookies, wine and cereal. After we checked out I realized that we forgot milk so I went back inside to get the milk. Then I get back to the car and everyone reminds me that we didn’t get any soap or sponges or sugar. Josie and I go back inside. We couldn’t find the sugar so I tried to ask. The only word I knew was ‘sucre’ so I found a guy and just said that. He looked at me kinda funny and I repeated myself then he seemed to understand so I followed him. We got in the aisle at the same time Josie did.
When we got back to the place everyone started making lunch. I had my baguette with jam and cheese. It tasted pretty yummy. Josie had hers with gouda and tomato. We played some more hearts; everyone was getting better. The game lasted a lot longer then last time.
So we ran out of toilet paper. Last night we took some from the place ate at, but today we ran out completely. Kyle and I went to the desk to ask and the lady said that we couldn’t get any more until Wednesday when the cleaning lady came. I tried to explain that there were five people and no TP. So, Kyle and I went on a walk around. We walked into the little town on Jausiers, which was one street long and a couple blocks wide. There was one little shop open so we went in. It was cute I guess, just a regular souvenir shop. We ended up walking up to the cemeterie, which is up on the little hill behind the church and overlooks the valley. We had good views from up there.
When we came back I suggested that we all watch a movie. Josie was taking a nap so I told her and we pulled out the second trundle bed. It was pretty squished, but comfortable with the five of us piled on the bed/couch. We watched the Minority Report, which was a pretty good movie that I hadn’t seen yet.
After that we started cooking dinner. We began to wonder where Kevin was, he was supposed to come today. We didn’t have any way of getting in contact with him or knowing how he was coming. We opened up our bottles of wine and took turn cooking. Earlier I had kept thinking that I heard someone knocking, but no one was ever at the door. Then Josie said she thought she heard someone and it was Kevin. I thought it was pretty amazing that he found us way out here in the middle of nowhere.
We cooked our dinner and drank some more wine. Josie, Ramsey, Kevin and I started a game of hearts. Meanwhile Margeaux and Kyle decided to have some explicit conversations that I’m not going to repeat. I am still enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the week.
