Walla Walla and Roslyn
From 1,200 Hours in North America in Walla Walla, United States on Jul 27 '08
No offense to the fine citizens of Walla Walla, but there is really not a lot going on there. When deciding whether to stay in Walla Walla or Yakima, Washington (we needed a stop on the way to Vancouver), we were lured in by the WikiTravel webpage for Walla Walla, which we have since decided was put together by someone working at the Walla Walla tourist office. (Well done! You got us this time!)
A brief tour of downtown yielded nothing, really, though they did have a Macy’s. We actually bought a Kodak book on “How to Take Great Picutres” at a local resale shop. We’re trying to figure out how to make it required elementray school reading in order to hopefully alieviate our great frusteration at others’ picture-taking inabilities.
We took a brief drive around Whitman College and stopped at a local winery for a tasting as we left town, but then we were on to Vancouver!
On our way, however, Eric deftly picked up on the name Roslyn on a freeway sign and remembered that it was the filming location of the TV show Northern Exposure! Before we knew it we were in “Cicely, Alaska” (setting of the show) and checking out the locations featured in the show! For a small fee, the gift shop now operating out of “Joel’s” office sells a map of some of the houses and other sites used in the show. Too fun!!
