In the cool Douglas morning, I got my mail and Neil put his bike into a box and left on a greyhound back to Ogallala. It was so good to have him along, but now I’m back on the road alone. A really good day just has to be followed by a bad day doesn’t it? It turns out that the road I wanted to take across to Casper was NOT paved. I decided to take it anyway because it didn’t look too wash-boarded or too heavy with gravel. And it wasn’t for a while. The worst was a few 100 yard stretches with 2 inch thick sand. I had to walk my bike for the 1st time in a month for sand. I found a room at this cute hotel near downtown Casper with the plan to take a zero day. It's been 3 weeks and another 1000 miles since my last day off in Jeff City. I strolled down town in the morning and was able to get all the rest of my maps at the library- copied and highlighted. Had brunch, bought a new book and saw Hairspray at this cute old movie theater. Because every really bad day has to be followed by a good one doesn’t it?!
