Rising early we set off to Sligo. The countryside in this part of the world was beautiful and reminded me of Scotland and the Lake District. Towering hills, gorgeous lakes, and crumbling, ruined castles. It was a very pleasant drive indeed. We got into Sligo and after parking in the centre of town thought we would sample the Guinness again. We managed to find a pub which was owned by a famous musician, his name I can no longer recall. At least that’s what the bar manager said. Pint over, we continued our journey. More gorgeous scenery abounded and it was easy to see why Ireland is the Emerald Isle. We stopped off many a time for some photo opportunities.

Late in the afternoon we made it to Galway. We soon got into the swing of things once we had found ourselves a hostel. Galway is a big party town and absolutely full of tourists, namely North Americans. We met a Canadian comedian who was touring Ireland so we had a few Guinness with him before meeting some lovely ladies from Boston. The three girls were all police officers and all quite stunning. Unfortunately they hadn’t brought their uniforms or handcuffs over with them, but they were very good company nethertheless. And boy they could drink! We drank long and hard into the night and with our own private comedian there wasn’t a dull moment! Only one thing irritated me! Why do some Americans persist in calling themselves Irish American? These girls all had Irish heritage, but were born in America, as were their parents, grandparents and great grandparents. Heck, I am more Irish than them lot! But they kept going on and on about how they were Irish Americans! If we want to get pedantic then I must be English-Irish-Welsh Australian, but that would be plain stupid wouldn’t it? It was a good night though, the funniest thing of all was when Fitzy got locked out of the hostel and had to climb through the window in the early hours! Fool!
