On my journey to Calcutta I stopped at Bodhgaya, which is a pleasant dusty little town. This is where Buddha sat under the bodhi tree and realized enlightenment. The original bodhi tree was destroyed by an emperor's wife but not before someone had taken a clipping of it. The tree currently in Bodhgaya is from the clipping of the original. A remarkable temple has been built around it. Many Buddhist countries have monasteries and temples here, so this was a great opportunity to see the different architectural styles used by each culture. I spent a couple of days visiting all of them.
