It's Father's Day, and we dropped anchor on the island of Korcula (pronounced Kor'chula) at 10:30 this morning.
After breakfast we attended an informal talk by Erla Zwingle about Venice.I asked for a bead shop suggestion and she gave me information on her favorite as she has lived there 13 years. Her sister said she has visited one time and bought lots... :-)

We caught the third tender for Korcula town and explored the old walled city by foot on our own. This is a much smaller city with about 5,000 inhabitants. The whole island only has 16,000.We had lunch at Restoran Tramonto of pizza and pivo.

We stopped at the Farmer's Market and got a few cherries, apricots and grapes. We also picked up some homemade cheese (yummy!) and some Snasina Sljivovica.
Next we joined the yellow group for a bus ride halfway down the island to a winery (took about 20 minutes). It was very pretty countryside and we drove through a couple of small quaint towns. After we returned to Korcula town, we decided not to go on the walking tour. Instead we hiked up the road a ways out of town until we could get a nice picture of the city.

*** The country came to a stop this afternoon. There was a World Cup game between Croatia and Japan. Many people were wearing hats and clothes with solid blue and red & white checks, the color of the Croatian flag. Cars drove by waving their flag and all cafes and bars were filled with the excited futball fans.
We had dinner with the Melohns and the Sutherlands tonight.
