After all our hard work and effort of finishing off, Friday was the official opening of the new school! The ceremony went so well; everyone dressed up including saris, smart shirts and new clean ‘smile’ t-shirts for the children to wear! Was actually quite nice to dull ourselves up with make-up and hair and even the night before we had a practise of putting our sari’s on we still had trouble the second time!

The ceremony was a combined effort of the children doing a procession with their marching band (5-7 yrs with immaculate timing!) at the start and performing dances; Hoky Poky, a traditional fisherman dance and girls dancing with candles. Also a great thanks to the teachers and Richard and Hishan explaining the work of Smile International and work in Sri Lanka.
