For Mothers Day, we took Mom and Grandma to the Monmouth Park Raceway for Mothers Day. Grandma loves the races, and as it turns out is pretty good at it, or is she just really lucky, don’t know for sure.

We had lunch/dinner at the Surf Club. It was nice to have our own table for the afternoon. We watched a couple of races, then we went down to the paddock and watched them saddle up the horses for the next race. The day wouldn’t have been complete without the Pony rides, the bounce house, the balloon man and finally face painting. It was a good distraction for a time. After K & R had some fun we went down and watched a race from the fence. It was a different perspective watching down along the fence.

Next time we might sit down on the picnic grounds. If you go on Sunday they have all those little extra goodies for the kids. The park is beautiful and it is fun to watch the racing. It wouldn’t be hard to go and just enjoy everything and never place a bet – we were busy enough at times that we were not even paying attention to the races. I imagine it would be a great place for a family picnic. They have a beautiful picnic area set up with lots and lots of tables all right along the track. So you would never be far from the action – of course, it would be a bit of walk to place a bet from there – but on a nice day – it might be fun.

We did stand in a lot of lines -- this one for balloons -- the short lines were for placing bets!

All in all it was a successful day, something for everyone: Grandma got to wager and won, Mom enjoyed the grounds and not having to drive over the bridges to Grandma’s, K & R got to see horses, Dad got to work the numbers, and last but not least Bobbo got the buffet.

Bill – we missed you but we did bet on “luvthatbilly” in the 11th race --- sorry but you didn’t show – you lost to “be a general” --- Grandma did bet on the General to win and that was a nice end to the day! Oh yeah, and K’s horse (Jersey Moon) took second in that race. For R it was luck in the 10th race with “Jeanie Beanie”.
