We arrived in Copenhagen on the morning of 7/3 and although we were ambitious in thinking we would hit the ground running, we didn't quite make it..On the way home from the airport Birgitte had stopped to pick up breakfast at one the of the best bakeries in Denmark. How do I know this? Of course from my travel channel icon, Samantha Brown. So, I already knew the Danes called Danishs, Wienebrod and Birgitte was very impressed! From here, it was off to the apartment to meet Lis and Bjarne who were waiting to meet us before they left for the country. We had some coffee and danishs and fun conversation. Bjarne did make it a point to say he can comunicate with my mother so he wasn't sure why it wasn't working for us :)

After they left for the country , all momentum fizzled and we decided to take a nap. We were fading fast and Albertos eyes were so bloodshot I am surprised he could see. We decided on a 2 hour power nap , to which we woke up 5.5 hours later. It actually felt great and we were recharged to go out and do some exploring.

A Real Danish Experience

That evening brought us on a walk into the heart of Copenhagen with Jim and Birgitte. We had a quick dinner in the square outside of City Hall. Here, we tried our first Smorrebrod, washed down by Carlsberg and some Snaps. Snaps is after dinner drinks in Danmark and so for us this meant , Aquavit! After a quick tour down the Stroget , the main shopping mecca of Copenhagen , we headed back to Birgittes for a visit to her apartment and some more after dinner drinks. The view from her apartment out to the lakes is amazing. She has a very mod decor Danish Apt and a 4+ story walk up. This pretty much concludes Day 1 , in a nutshell , stay tuned for Day 2 tomorrow!
