Culture shock in Bangkok
From Round the world! in Bangkok, Thailand on Apr 11 '07
Definition of culture shock: Arriving in Bangkok having spent five months in Tanzania and India. Staying in the downtown area at the moment and I feel like I've stepped into the future. After five months of fairly basic living, I decided to visit a shopping mall as it was time for a bit of self-indulgent pampering. ONE of the MANY shopping malls in the area. We don't have malls like this at home, and I worked in the UK's largest one which now seems rather small with very few shops! We certainly don't have four all next to each other! After the novelty of the bright lights, a huge array of western and Thai consumer goods, I have now become a bit overwhelmed by it. Having now recovered from a bit of a cold and general weariness it is time to explore beyond the bright lights of downtown and see what the rest of Bangkok brings.
