Well, my stay with my host family was one of the most beneficial things on my trip!! Speaking spanish only with my family who couldn't speak english was very helpful.  Their society was very free, family oriented, and friendly.  The power went off quite often during the week there, but we just sat there and chatted on the front porch or in the kitchen with candels, it was nice~ Also, you had to drink watner out of jugs, and you couldn't flush toilet paper anywhere in the country!  I got so used to it, it was tough to start doing it at home again! haha....

I visited some forts, the local market, museums, art galleries, and of course, the bars, aka DISCOS, in the city.  I really enjoyed santiago...it was pretty amazing, i'dd definately recommend it to anyone who is interested in going to the dominican!  its a completely differnet life style than what we are used to, but its neat!
