After our Canada rockies adventure I took off for Vancouver island to give Rachael some peace and quiet while she was looking for work.
Vancouver island is home to the city of Victoria which is the provincial capital of British Columbia and the birth place of came you believe it Pamela Anderson. The island and it's coastline was navigated by a one Captain James Cook (see it's not all drinking, I'm learning too!), you aussies might know him or at least I hope so.
After the 2 hour ferry ride to the island our first stop on the tour was a 2 night stay in the sea side town of Tofino... well sort if sea side... it is a bit of a walk to the beach, but the town does rest on a beautiful sound that has an incredible red glow during sunset. There were a number of things to do in tofino from whale watching to surfing and kayaking. I spent my morning sea kayaking on the sound. It was an early morning session and the sound was that still that it looked like we were gliding on the top of glass.... that was of course when a boat or seaplane wasn't whizzing passed as and creating a rather large wake.

Although there is some beautiful scenery to soak up in Tofino the town is also famous for its wednesday night Karaoke at the local and of course the moose tour crew were out in full force. YES YES of course I hit that mic with an homage to that classic film top gun with "You've lost that loving feeling" and then a rather timid scottish gent took the stage (yes Dave I talking about you) and blew us all away. With the carisma of a superstar David the Scottsman sung his heart out and in the process easily one over the crowd.... keeps you eyes out for him on idol!

After a fine display of Karaoke we headed to Victoria along the way stopping at the very forrest that George Lucas filmed the speeder scene from Return of the Jedi.... yes Sci Fi Geeks I went to the forrest moon of endor...how cool.
Once in Victoria myself and two swiss guys on tour hired mopeds to scoot around the city for a while...... these people are crazy in cars, driving on the righthand side and actually legally running red lights when it is 'safe' to turn. But after some quick learning I managed to sort of figure out the road rules and zoomed my way around Victoria...heaps fun.
