A stunningly beautiful part of the US

Voices of Africa has visited no places in Asheville

Nicks Story.  After a brief stop in Raleigh I got back in to the Soccer Mom van and drove West towards Asheville, NC.  Obviously, one of the big questions after Africa is where to live and what to do.  I am looking for peace and quiet, mountain and lake views, great climate and an outdoor lifestyle.  The Asheville region fits so many of those needs.

First of all, it is breathtakingly beautiful.  The drive from Boston had been breathtaking but being in the small towns around Asheville was even more incredible.  I ended up staying only for one day.....because it was so nice and I didn't want to see the region while I was so tired from the African adventure.  I drove to Black Mountain and Bat Cove as well as Lake Lure.  I also stopped in to a real estate place and found out more about property prices.  It seems like this part of the US is one of the up and coming areas as more people realise that the climate is so good that it is a great place to live.  Most importantly, my little apartment in Cambridge would buy me a 4 bedroom log cabin with 4 acres in the mountains in NC......seems like a great trade. It is also close to an international airport and links well with Boston and Florida.  The major problem is that it will be a bit far to go back to watch Boro play every week.

Maybe it is time to settle somewhere for a while?

For anyone traveling in the US, this area around the Blue Ridge Parkway is an absolute must see.
