Leaving Nice – picked up our rental car – headed to Lucca …

We had a nice stay in Nice – this morning we left our tour group after breakfast. Sally & I decided to walk to pickup the car at the train station and then head back to the hotel to pick up our luggage. The walk to the train station (where the Hertz office is) was about 6 blocks. That was the easy part. After picking up our Opel Corrseca getting back to the hotel was a bit of a challenge as they are tearing up the streets of Nice to put in a Tram railway system. Many of the streets were blocked off – but the bigger challenge was that most of the streets were not labeled. We had to be back at the hotel by noon to avoid charges for another day …. Sally was a real trooper and navigator … we walked around ¼ mile … and made it back to the hotel by 11:45 am.

Now the challenge was getting directions to get out of Nice …. No problem … the doorman at the hotel gave Sally the needed directions and we were off!

The drive to Lucca, Italy was on interstate highways …. The roads were very good … interesting there are a lot …. I mean a lot of tunnels … I’m thinking maybe 100 – on the way back maybe we’ll count them. The toll on the road was about $ 35.00. We stopped for gas one time …

We arrived in Lucca … and through some magic … found the walled city … and the parking area where we were to leave the car. We decided to walk to the Bed & Breakfast and determine our next step.

Once at the B&B, our host Claudio – drove us back to the parking area – this was a blessing as we would have had to “shelpt” our bags quite some distance.

Our room is very nice – to be honest I think we have the best room in the place – we took some time to walk around this charming town and had dinner at “Leo’s” – as recommended by our host “Claudio”. Sally ordered chicken … but ended up eating Rabbit …. It was good!
