Well  after a rather hellish 24 hour journey (I swear Iberia must be some kind of long distance budget airline) I finally arrived in Mexico City.

And how to describe it...

...22 million people crammed into a grimy valley where everyone is selling something, shouting at someone, honking their horn or blasting terrible music at 200 decibels into the sky.

Still its kinda addicting in its own crazy way.

In 5 days I have:

1) Flirted with my inner Indiana Jones my visiting Aztec and Toltec temples at Teotihuacan (got up at 5 to be the first to climb the Pyramida de la Luna), Tula (complete with Easter Island style giant sculptures) and Templo Mayer (with its weird Russian Doll temple on top of temple construction.

2) Roamed the Zocolo in the heart of Mexico City in the search of protests and political passion.

3) Been to the spot that Trotsky was assassinated from, with the blunt end of an ice axe no less - very painful

4) Fallen in love with the art work of Diego Riveria and Freida Kahlo.  Diego´s murals on Mexican history are just breathtaking, if not a bit Communist utopian for my political tastes.  Whilst Freida´s work is utterly effective in demonstrating the issues that affected her life - polio, the tram accident, her infertility, the loss of her leg, her relations with her family and Diego´s infidelity.  Plus they had a stunning house.

5) Eaten some great street food (Super Tostas) and some truly terrible street food (some weird dry Ryvita style Taco which even terrible salsa couldn't hide the taste of)
