Medoza and Cordoba - City of sleep, and Cordoba of many doctors
From South America in Cordoba, Argentina on Jan 18 '07
Actually went to Mendoza first. Medoza was lovely and warm, bathed in a lovely med - European flavour and full of beautiful people. In Salta people dressed up but you could see the remaining "ethinic" influence. By the time I got to Medoza and then in Cordoba, the women espeically, were clearly of the most advantageous mix of european blood. Seriously, there are no ugly women. the ugliest fattist woman would be avarege on harrow highstreet! (although that's not saying much!)
But in Medoza, appart from meeting a slightly crazy, but great Ozzy chick called Sammi, who was lugging around a guitar she bought in BA and wanting to throw herself into a music career and the arms of the lead singer of a band she had pulled, i had a pretty quiet time. Needed to recover from the noctural life spent in Salta. But we did have time for Sammi to have her Ipod stolen (although she had left it lying around in the hostel) and to spend all morning at the police station only to find that we should be in a different place...it{s all about karma...i´m stocking up on mine!
Went of a wine tour in Medoza (really good Meloc) where i ended up buying a fantastic organic white wine for 10pesos - 1.50GB. Was lovely, but ended up drinking it in a rather less elegant fashion from mugs before our night out in cordoba. shame. But the wine tour was self organised and invovled us using the local buses and then hiring bikes. Ended up riding for more than 35km in the heat, and more than a little drunk. relatively didn´t do as many vineyards as we should have. although did get to go to the chocolate factory as a reward!
Decided that given we were living life pretty quietly in Medoza, we should head eastwards to the university town of Cordoba - a night bus away - for the weekend. So we dully headed off for a 9hour night bus ride, finding ourselves in our hostel at 7am were there were no beds free until 10. while sitting down in the TV room a very camp but very sweet (he offered to lend us his bed while he went to ' meet up' with a 'new friend' argentinian called Augustin. After sleeping, Sammi and I went to the shopping centre where i spent a lot of money on new shoes, short skirt (!) and top. Also both had treatments in the hairdressers. bliss.
This was our big night out...and we{d travelled 9hrs to get here only to be told that on a sat everyone who is anyone goes to a nearby town (45mins in a cab!) to Carlos Pass to party in these huge outside-indside clubs. We decided to try out the town, but it was full of 18 yearolds who obviously were not allowed to go to Carlos Pass yet. Eventually we were pursuaded to go to Carlos Pass by a very charasmatic, if mulletted (the coolest thing for men here - yuck!) barman to join him in the trip there. So at 3am we headed out...included having to change the tyre on the cab, and arrived at 4am where we hung out with beautiful people and generally partied the night (what remained) away until the sun came up. then we headed inside, leaving at 9am. all fuelled by alcohol. they do call their redbull "Speed" so i suppose that should say something!
The next few days in Cordoba were spent recovering, sleeping, and going around the beautiful city where they have the oldest university in South America. Oh, and shopping.
