This is what happens when I try to take my own visa photo. It is also probably the reason my visa hasn't come yet. Just kidding, I sent another pic.

Hi, All,

It's one month to go, and most of you still don't know about this site. This week I paid my tuition (thanks for all the donations!!); got a Hepatitis A shot that left a little purple dot on my left arm; got four pills containing "attenuated typhoid virus," which I'll take every other day for a week, plus another round of antibiotics since the nurse said, "Basically, you'll get diarrhea. You're there too long not to." Rock on, nurse lady.

Uhh...."attenuated typhoid virus"? I'm supposed to eat this?

Indonesia just had a major earthquake this morning that has killed thousands, and Thailand has endured flooding in the north that has killed many people. Thailand is also having its share of political drama, with peaceful protests and demonstrations. I try to remember that flooding and earthquakes are things I have here in San Diego, and that the US is no stranger to political messes, so I try not to worry about stuff like that. Mom thinks I'll be eaten by a tsunami, but that's Mom. She watches nothing on TV but the war and death channels, so much so that it's a wonder she ever leaves home. :) Besides, I'm tough. I chaperone prom.

I'm excited too because thanks to my friends Chad and Kathy, I'm in the middle of SCUBA class! Hopefully I'll pass and get certified so I can scuba dive in Thailand. I'll keep everyone posted.

Still waiting for my visa. It'll be here any day now...then I'm pretty much ready to go. Thanks to Kiernan and Erin for helping me out at REI!

FYI--this site puts little bouts of random letters into my text. I can't stop it, but as long as it's happening I'm going to blame all my typos on it too. Forgive me. I know I'm an English teacher, but sometimes I type so fast I can't see what my speedy little fingers are doing, and Sandy's in Davis so there's no one to catch my mistakes. Plus, when I get to Thailand, I'm paying by the minute to type.
