Today’s shopping took us to Midtown, seeing as we had covered SoHo yesterday. The weather was pretty hot again so it was nice to be in the air-conditioned stores! The problem with department stores here is negotiating all the sales staff. It is a bit of a mission to walk through the cosmetics and perfume sections without being attacked by sprays or foundation being thrown at you by over-zealous staff! However, as time goes on I am getting more adept at avoiding them – it definitely is an acquired skill! It is New York fashion week here at the moment and I got the privilege of witnessing lots and lots of Upper East Side women wandering around today with their extremely expensive clothes and jewellery. However, this wasn’t their main defining feature. They are all the victims of absolutely horrendous facelifts. Each one I saw seemed to be worse than the last! Not a particularly pretty sight! If that’s what having far too much money means then I am happy with my current financial status thank you. After tiring ourselves out shopping we returned to SoHo for dinner. However, we were not prepared to walk all the way down there again so instead spent 20 minutes searching for a cab. Of course, then 3 free ones came along at once – doesn’t matter what city you are in, in the world, sod’s law is always applicable! SoHo is one of may favourite places in New York, both to shop and to eat. It has lots of warehouses and cool bars and restaurants as well as lots of galleries and artists studios as well so it is quite cosmopolitan. It was quite busy on a Friday night too so had a nice atmosphere so we had another wander round after dinner before returning to our apartment and a well earned rest after our busy day spending far too much money!
