How Tracy spent her birthday… jumping off a cliff, running from the Federales and by complete coincidence having dinner with a friend. Details to follow! We rented a Jeep (of course!) and went to Xel Ha. It was really fun. I wasn’t sure about it thinking it would be too touristy. But there was a lot to do and interesting. We saw some really big fish! The water wasn’t very clear but the fish were cool. I swung on a rope & splashed in the water. Very cool. Then Tracy and me jumped off a 20 ft. cliff. Woo hoo! It was really fun. Scary at first but fun! So we had a good time at Xel Ha. Then we wanted to see oldest Mayan ruins in Tulum. Well, when we got there it was closed. ARGH! We started talking to these 2 girls and a taxi driver out front. They had an interesting suggestion. Just sneak under the fence. No big deal they said. So off we go. Past the closed ticket booth. Under the fence. Down the hill. Up to the ruins. There we were reading the signs and giving ourselves the “guided tour” We were climbing all over the ruins and enjoying the lack of lines when a guard came walking up. He kept saying, “You’re in trouble. These are federal sacred grounds. How did you get in here?”. We just told him we were “looking for the beach”. So we left. As we were getting to our car the Federales showed up. Uh oh! We explained that we were sorry. We were told we could go in there and we were really sorry. They kinda smiled and told us to go on. Oh man! So then were supposed to meet Tracy’s Farah who was there with her parents. However, Tracy’s cell phone wasn’t working. So we just spent the early evening driving the Jeep along the beached. Ok, one beach looked had some deep sand. I got the Jeep stuck! So Tracy (since she couldn’t drive a shift stick very well) said she would get out and push. So I shifted gears while she pushed and the Jeep moved out of the hole. Oh no… I looked in the rear view mirror and Tracy is cover in sand. She said she was behind the back tire and sand flew all over her. Oh no!!!!! I felt really bad! So we were about to head back to Playa Del Carmen. Bummed about not meeting up with Farah. Oh well, we tried. So we decided to go to a nice restaurant right on the beach we saw. We had been there about 15 minutes and just ordered. As a table was being seated right next to us I hear, “Chris!”. It was Farah and her family! Too funny! So we had Tracy’s birthday dinner with them. Farah’s parents bought our dinner which was so nice of them! Then we headed back to Playa. We went out for a little bit but got tired. What a strange day!
